General Discussion / Lost password on user account.
« on: December 12, 2022, 11:03:02 pm »
Hello guys!
So, I decided to create a thread here in case any of you know what to do.
I've checked several internet pages, but my problem seems to persist.

I just got my desktop Windows 7 Home Premium back after a year from where it was stored, but I have forgotten my password completely.

I have tried several options of password retrieval/removal:
- Ophcrack (CD/DVD)
- TRK (Trinity Rescue Kit) (CD/DVD)

Ophcrack had an issue with not being able to find the tables, displaying the message "no drivers found", no matter what I try to click on that might help me in my case.

TRK also encounters a problem, where it says:
"Trying to find TRK on your 0 CD-drive(s)
TRK not found on CD, Checking harddisks & USB sticks (sleep 5 secs let them settle in)
Attached SCSI generic Sg0 type 5 cat:/etc/trkhd: No such file or directory
Seems we didn't find anything yet. Trying CD-drives once more. Try to find TRK on your 1 cd-drive(s)
Seems we didn't find the TRK medium
Manually enter the device on which TRK can be found (e.g. 'sda1'):

If I enter sda1, it just tells me that something is wrong/could not load/no such file in directory.

Any idea on what to do instead/do to fix it? I want to try to avoid having to reinstall my whole computer, and I appreciate to have the answer as easy as possible, because I'm not that much of a computer-person.

x Kidd

General Discussion / How To Find Clients For Web Design Services?
« on: November 14, 2022, 02:32:05 am »
You will read a lot of advice about how to get clients for web design services. But, much of them is a time-consuming process.

Whether you are a freelancer or web design agency, you want clients fast. Basically, most people begin their business by working for friends, family, or random clients. Then we rely on those clients for recommendations. Referrals are a passive way of winning clients. But it's a dangerous thing to rely upon. As there is no guarantee that they will do that. Therefore to find clients for web design services, follow the following steps:

  • Optimize your website
    Focus on content marketing
Guest post or appear on podcasts
    Await events
    Speak at events
    Participate in online communities
    Ask for referrals

General Discussion / Empire Appreciation Thread
« on: May 09, 2022, 03:57:41 am »
As a very long term subscriber to apparently the UK's biggest movie magazine, I thought it high time that such a publication was at least talked about.

Is it still relevant in this digital age?
Do Empire's reviewers throw around 5 blood red star ratings around with gay abandon?
Are they too spoiler heavy, and do they influence a choice of film?
Is it still a good read?
Do you still possess a copy of Issue 1?
Have you ever had a letter published?
Has it been consumed by comic book films and high profile sequels?
What on earth do you do with all the back issues?!
Are you a refugee from Empire's now defunct movie forum?
Do the recently announced Empire Award nominations have any bearing on the Industry as a whole?

Having skimmed the nominations for best film in particular, it's very disappointing to not see a trace of the magnificent Blade Runner 2049! I'd have to plump for the flawed, but good Last Jedi from that list instead. It's quite an oddball mix as always, with art house films, sharing centre stage with high profile crowd pleasers.

General Discussion / Do you have the willpower to avoid film trailers?
« on: April 22, 2022, 02:46:15 am »
Once upon a time (i.e. the 80s), I would look forward to trailers or TV spots (or clips from Film shows) for upcoming films. Getting to the cinema in time to catch the trailers was as important as the film itself. Not anymore. Over-saturation of marketing and promo material in the internet and social media age has pretty much put paid to that. As has the studio marketing department’s propensity to put the whole film out in condensed format via trailer - which will be in at least 10 parts leading up to the release of the film. Two cases in point are No Time to Die and The Batman. All the significant moments practically shown in the trailers equating to much diminished enjoyment of the product.

As a result, I am going to try to avoid trailers from now. I was going to watch the new Thor teaser but have decided not to. It’s been put out mere months from release whereas in normal times, we’d get a teaser around 1 year before release.

I don’t know if I have the willpower to resist all new trailers but I’m going to try! One of the things I like about (and there’s not much of it going around) about “straight to Netflix” and “Amazon Originals” films is that they often pop up without me knowing anything about them beforehand. You don’t get millions of trailers for them either. I can usually watch based on if I like the sound of it from the plot synopsis.

General Discussion / CURRENT MOVIE CLICHES
« on: April 12, 2022, 12:30:03 am »
One can't help noticing actions, plot devices or sayings which come up time and time again in movies or series these days. Whether the writers think they're so cool that they must be used, or whether they've simply become part of the lazy lexicon, it's hard to say.

Here are three that I've noticed:

Vomiting: I knew that contemporary society has lapsed into communal neurosis, but evidently we have become physically ill as well. In film we're lucky to have 30 minutes of screen time without someone upchucking.

I've got to take this: Every time there is a cell phone/android in a scene, you can be sure this line will follow. Is there never a time where they don't have to take this?

Maglite beams: Perhaps as a result of film makers raised on light sabers, hardly a film goes by without the use of the powerful flashlights spearing away in darkened scenes. Some times the action taking place at night doesn't even make sense, but for the desire to display the nifty Maglite. My personal favorite is when they could actually simply flip on the room light switch, but no, let's use these beams...

Certainly there are dozens of current chestnuts. What are your favorites?

Michael Mann, Gandolf the prematurely Grayed, that guy you always mistake for a Carradine, Gabriel Byrne and not-the-girl-from-Flashdance. It ain't getting a Criterion release, so we must remake it now, here in 2022. Choose

your preferred gaffer (and be sure to tell the rest of us what they do),
and feel free to shape the tale a bit (e.g., set it Ukraine during the Russian invasion or WWI).

Buzzing Buzz (News Articles on Telly Shows) / No Time to Die
« on: March 12, 2022, 12:24:35 am »
Yesterday I watched No Time To Die and I am bit disappointed with the story. I was expecting some blast as this is Denial Craig's last movie for the bond franchise. But it was same old story saving the world Also Remi Malek character as villain was very boring other then his makeup.
My rating for this movie is 6/10.
What is your take on this movie?

The Batman returns to face one of his most cerebral villains, The Riddler, in Matt Reeves' re-imagining of the character... and it's one of the most visually sumptuous superhero movies of recent years.

Hi, All! I've recently purchased a small apartment in downtown DC and am having it redone so that I can age in place hopefully for the next 15+ years. I have multiple sclerosis so I'm planning & investing now for what I'll need down the road. My kitchen will be a small galley (entire unit is only 700 sq. ft.). I really, really want the Neff Slide & Hide built-in wall oven. Yes, it's both space friendly and cool but, for me, the ability to take that door out of the way to put heavier items in and out of the oven will mean a great deal to me. Possibly, even keep me in my home longer. I'm willing to import it and I do have the electrician/professionals to do the install/power conversion as necessary. But I'm not finding the right resources to order one. Can you help?

Upcoming Bollywood Movies / The Godfather Trilogy - New Release Pending!
« on: January 31, 2022, 01:37:05 am »
Afternoon All,

Just been trawling the BBFC's website, and noted that The Godfather Trilogy has been reclassified as a 15 certificate. Now, let me elaborate.

1 - Originally, Godfather and Godfather Part II, have always been 18 certificates. Both films have now been reclassified to 15's, but are still uncut and uncensored.

2 - The reason for the classification change, is purely down to the BBFC deciding that a) the content is acceptable, in comparison with most average 15-rated movies and DVD's, and b) the fact that the violence is set in a historical context, rather than a fantastical one. Hence, it was decided that all 3 movies could now be accepted in the 15 certificate category.

Now for the news: The Godfather Trilogy is being re-released onto DVD and, for the first time, also onto Blu-Ray DVD too!

The trilogy has been restored and remastered, via a 4k Digital Restoration process, to improve the picture and sound on all 3 movies. However, both 1 and 2 will still not look as great as some modern movies, due to the way they were filmed, and the inherent nature in which the negatives have been used, and reused since their creation. But, the picture is supposed to be absolutely stunning and improves on the previous DVD release.

With the Trilogy, there will be an all-new 84-minute documentary about the history of the movie, the novel, the death of writer Mario Puzo, and the restoration of the movie, as well as a look at the recent novelised sequel.

Sadly, there is no official release date yet, from Paramount, though sometime in mid-to-late May or early June 2008 appears to be the unofficial word on the street, and there will NOT be any extra footage or altering of the films contents either! SO, if you have the DVD boxed set from recent years, then other than the new documentary and better picture/sound, there should be no other differences in the content.

Nor is there news on when or if the "Godfather Epic" (a near-10-hour reorganisation of all three movies, into one, gigantic, chronological epic masterpiece, showing the life of the Corleone family from birth to death) will ever get released onto DVD. Though a UK and US VHS boxed set of this did come out, it's never been re-released since the early 1990's, and is much sought-after! :(

There is also a rumour that the original Godfather movie, will also be released to selected cinemas, for a short cinematic outing, in the newly-remastered and restored print that is coming to DVD!

Lastly. the release has been retitled as "The Godfather: The Coppola Restoration", but is listed on most sites as "The Godfather Trilogy: Remastered". See this link for a picture and some info.

General Discussion / Chaos Walking Movie Review & Comments
« on: January 25, 2022, 03:40:48 am »
Doug "Edge of Tomorrow" Liman's 2017-shot adaptation of the Young Adult sci-fi book series is a startling exercise in missed opportunities and wasted potential, which doesn't even have the same visual opulence of misfires like Jupiter Ascending.
